Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L。 Armentrout comes a new novel in her Blood and Ash series…

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with。 Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden。 But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him。 The Dark One。 The Prince of Atlantia。 He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey。 He may have taken her, but he will never have her。

A Choice。。。

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces。 His lies are as seductive as his touch。 His truths as sensual as his bite。 Poppy knows better than to trust him。 He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals。 But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended。 Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks。 He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted。 Casteel has plans for her。 Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain。 Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him。 Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for。 And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation。

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince。 Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all。 The King wants to use her to send a message。 The Descenters want her dead。 The wolven are growing more unpredictable。 And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her。 Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden。 But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late。

5/5 mesmerizing stars! This book, as the first one, started slowly。 Loads of conversation and witty remarks while not much happened through the first half of the novel。 BUT THEN。。。。!! I am so intrigued by Poppy's journey, and I am loving the character development from a shy, sheltered girl to a confident, fiery woman。The second half of this book went like a whirlwind。 I have to say, if you've enjoyed the first one, you'll LOVE this。 And now I'm onto #3。 5/5 mesmerizing stars! This book, as the first one, started slowly。 Loads of conversation and witty remarks while not much happened through the first half of the novel。 BUT THEN。。。。!! This book, I have so many thoughts。 I finished this book in a day and a half。 I couldn’t stop reading, but I did feel like it was a bit too king without much of the plot professing。 However, this book was a book where we learned about relationships and trust and I feel it was necessary for the series to move forward to hash this out in the way that it did。 I feel it could of been 100 pages shorter with a few less teasing smutty scenes。 But overall I do feel like this book was still incredibly wr This book, I have so many thoughts。 I finished this book in a day and a half。 I couldn’t stop reading, but I did feel like it was a bit too king without much of the plot professing。 However, this book was a book where we learned about relationships and trust and I feel it was necessary for the series to move forward to hash this out in the way that it did。 I feel it could of been 100 pages shorter with a few less teasing smutty scenes。 But overall I do feel like this book was still incredibly written。 It’s very captivating being inside poppy’s head。I’ve seen some people say she’s annoying and complains。 I don’t feel this way at all。 I personally hate books where the female main character is a bitch and trying to be this progressive & aggressive leader。 I like when it’s done in a way with a little more humility。 I feel like she fits her role perfectly and also she is coming to find herself after years of being controlled。 It’s a perfect book that truly follows along the journey of her coming to find herself beyond the veil of the maiden。 It will feel a bit drawn out at times, could of been reduced。 But all together, I love that she & Cas create the bond and trust。 I freaking LOVE Cas & where this book takes you。 Also, THE ENDING WILL BLOW YOUR MIND 。。。more

I have low standards and if it has romance and kisses, it’s gonna get a good rating lol。 But I can see the flaws that this book has, and there were things that’s annoyed me a lot。 His constant sexual comments reminds me of the boys who would sexual harass me in sixth grade math class。 No matter what they say or do, the comments never stop and you asking for it to stop makes it worse。 This was how Casteel was in the beginning and calmed down at the end, but I did not have a fun time with that。 In I have low standards and if it has romance and kisses, it’s gonna get a good rating lol。 But I can see the flaws that this book has, and there were things that’s annoyed me a lot。 His constant sexual comments reminds me of the boys who would sexual harass me in sixth grade math class。 No matter what they say or do, the comments never stop and you asking for it to stop makes it worse。 This was how Casteel was in the beginning and calmed down at the end, but I did not have a fun time with that。 In the first book, I didn’t think much of the name Tawny (I have never heard it before) but I saw the concerns of others。 I didn’t understand until I saw tawny being used as a word to describe skin color。 Now I understand…what made the author think that was a good idea? Really…What I liked about the book was Poppy’s selflessness and viciousness。 Murderous women are awesome。 I am also invested in the romance between the two main characters and how it is going to progress。 So, here I go to the next book。 。。。more

200 pages could’ve been taken out of this book and there would still be too much filler。 I used to think it was twilight and acotar on drugs but I don’t think that’s even accurate anymore?? am I still gonna read the third book? yeah, but only because I wanna torture myself and can’t read 2/3 of the series。

omg…。 i can’t even put this book into wordsthe pacing, plot, intricacies of fantasy, the action, character development and the romance。 WTF HOW DO YOU MAKE SUCH A GOOD BOOK TWO TIMES IN A ROW I WILL BEVER STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS BOOK its the perfect fantasy romance with a balance between the two so you don’t get tired of either being more prominent, can’t even put this into words😺

The angst between Poppy and Casteel was everything。 The conversations felt so real。 Everything the characters said felt genuine to their personality, their storyline, and their emotions。 Also, love the banter between Casteel, Poppy, and Kieran。 Casteel and Poppy are truly heartmates, and Kieran knows it。 As soon as I met Beckett, I loved the character。 He was adorable and unlike what you expect Wolven to be like since he was so young。 You knew he had some fear, but I w So good。。。。。。just so good! 3。6 ⭐Initially the pace of the story was too slow。 I had no idea when Casteel and Poppy were going to reach Atlantia。 But soon things picked up and I really liked where the book ended! Things are about to get interesting!

There's almost too much backstory to keep everything straight and not get frustrated。 There's a lot of talking and politics and it's tiresome。 I'll admit I started skimming through most of it。 There's almost too much backstory to keep everything straight and not get frustrated。 There's a lot of talking and politics and it's tiresome。 I'll admit I started skimming through most of it。 。。。more

Pretty good。 I knew it was gonna be hard to beat the 1st book, but I liked how the story flowed directly from where it leaves off。 I appreciate that continuous quality throughout the book as well。 I love the characters and plot as I’ve said before, but I do have a few critiques of this book。 It was soooo dialogue heavy。 What I mean is conversations went on for 20 pages at a time only to go into a different conversation。 A majority of this book is just talking not much action。 It’s only toward th Pretty good。 I knew it was gonna be hard to beat the 1st book, but I liked how the story flowed directly from where it leaves off。 I appreciate that continuous quality throughout the book as well。 I love the characters and plot as I’ve said before, but I do have a few critiques of this book。 It was soooo dialogue heavy。 What I mean is conversations went on for 20 pages at a time only to go into a different conversation。 A majority of this book is just talking not much action。 It’s only toward the end of the book where the action really starts。 And it’s not light small talk, it’s very information heavy, regarding complex fantasy history and terms。 And if I’m being hyper critical, I have to say a lot of it could’ve been cut, because it was repetitive。 Even the more playful conversations repeated the same jokes and phrases often。 Along with that, poppy and Casteel went into circles this book。 It was very clear how they both felt about each other from the last book yet they danced around it constantly。 Which is weird because Poppy fully admits she loves him, then goes back to “pretending”? Didn’t really add up。 BUT when they do finally and completely reveal their feelings it all comes together。 Just a little too much beating around the bush especially for 600 pages of it。 Despite my criticisms this is a very easy book to read, and I found myself dying to know what would happen next。 I don’t stay up till 4am for just any book, so it’s very much entertaining me。 Can’t wait to see where the story goes and the ending of this book was fantastic。 Also I swear to god when is this “joining” gonna happen。 I bought the book because I heard about that scene and still 2 books on and it’s nowhere!!! Anyways 1973738/10 A+ for wolvens mainly Kieran 。。。more

Even worse than the first book, mainly because the entirety of the 500+ pages saw miniscule plot development。 My fascination in the world increased due to certain events toward the end of the book, but I don't know if I'll be able to give the next book a go due to how this one dragged。 Even worse than the first book, mainly because the entirety of the 500+ pages saw miniscule plot development。 My fascination in the world increased due to certain events toward the end of the book, but I don't know if I'll be able to give the next book a go due to how this one dragged。 。。。more

Just wow! That ending! SO unexpected。Well I read a number of negative reviews of the book and while I understood the complaints about a slow down on the plot in this book I had a different appreciation of it。 I saw book one as an excellent opening which focused on world building, introducing the characters and the plot line。 I felt it did that excellently and I actually expected a Kingdom of Flesh and Fire to be exactly what it is i。e。 focused on building the romance between Casteel and Poppy。 G Just wow! Yes。 But I think its for a good reason and I would totally read it again if I wasn't so keen to jump into The Crown of Guilded Bones。 For this one and especially for her ending JLA gets a rare 5* review from me。 。。。more
